The Confidence of Wildflowers is an emotional age gap romance with an ending that absolutely shattered me. Readers should be aware that while this is a great book it may be triggering for some.
Rating: ★★★★

Series: Wildflower Duet #1
Pages: 347 pages

My future is a big ‘what if’ at the moment and I’m fine with that.
For the most part.

When Thayer Holmes moves in next door, the grumpy landscaper both fascinates and amuses me.

When he asks me to nanny his kid, it’s a great way to make some extra money.

It’s impossible not to fall in love with Thayer and his adorable son.
There’s a big problem though.

I’m eighteen. He’s thirty-one.

Falling for someone almost fifteen years older than me wasn’t part of my plans, but sometimes things happen when you least expect them.

All in all, I really enjoyed this one. But I have to say that I could have done without that ending. I sometimes wonder why authors will go to these levels and make their books so devastating! I’m not hating or judging and I’m sure she has her reasons, but my heart literally HURTS. I wasn’t expecting what happened and I’m having a hard time understanding the need for it. Will I continue this duet? Of course! Michaela has written a book that tore right into my heart and wouldn’t let go and I’m honestly interested in seeing where she takes the story in the next one. I could have done without that heartbreak through!

I’ll be keeping this review short because I don’t want to spoil the story, but I will say that if you enjoy an age gap (she’s 19, he’s 31) neighbors to lover’s romance then this would be a good book for you. Just be warned that there is a part at the end that is extremely sad. I’ll leave it in a spoiler here in case someone NEEDS to know what it is.

It took me a while to learn that sometimes no matter how much, or how hard you love someone, or something, you have to let them go. You can’t save a sinking ship.

Sometimes, you have someone else you have to be strong for, who needs you more.

You make a choice.

A devastating one.

And you hope, maybe one day, they’ll come back to you.

READ MY BOOK REVIEW

The Resurrection of Wildflowers is the second book in the Wildflowers duet. It’s an emotional age gap romance with a little bit of heat and a whole lot of heart.

This is the first duet I’ve read from Micalea Smeltzer, and I have to say I’m very intrigued. I love the type of books she writes as most of them fall into romance tropes that I really enjoy so once I finished this one, I immediately downloaded another. I’m really excited to read more of her books.

This one in particular is the second book in the Wildflowers duet and MUST be read AFTER The Confidence of Wildflowers. It takes place six years after the cliffhanger in that book and tells the story of what happens between Salem and Thayer following one of the most devastating things that could happen to a parent. I won’t spoil the story and tell you what happens, but I will say that there is a lot of emotion in this one too and I did shed a few tears.

If you enjoy age gap romances, then I definitely recommend this duet to you. The characters are great (Thayer is an AMAZING hero), the story packs enough heat to make you swoon but also enough emotion to make you FEEL.
