Written with Regret is the first book in the emotional and angsty Regret duet. These books have a little suspense and a huge twist you won't see coming! I recommend it (them).
Rating: ★★★★
Release Date: May 23, 2019
Genre: Contemporary Romance.

Series: The Regret Duet #1
Pages: 234 pages
Format: eBook. Borrowed with KU.
Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing
that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

THE REGRET DUET

M Y - R E V I E W

Release Date: May 23, 2019
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Actual Rating: 4 stars

Let me start out by saying that I am SO glad I waited until this duet was complete before reading it. I don't think I would have kept my sanity with that twist if I had to wait! Now I can calmly (kind of) go into the next one! Phew. Written with Regret is my first Aly Martinez book. I know this is shocking as many readers absolutely love her work and so many have recommended her previous books. I just hadn't had a chance or felt the need to try a new to me author until now. I am happy to say though that I am glad I read a book by her (this one obviously) because I am slowly becoming addicted! This is agreat book! It's angsty, turbulent, sexy, and has an epic twist at the end. Because it is the first book in a duet, it does end in a cliffhanger. Trust me when I say this, you are going to immediately one click the next book after this ending. I did! I NEED to see what happens next. Could go one or two ways. I have my theories (I won't elaborate as it would ruin the twist in this one) but know it could honestly go either way! So I'm really excited to read the conclusion.

I won't go on to explain Written with Regret as this is the type of book that reads better without prior information about. However, I will say that the way the book started really scared me! It's dark, emotional, and heartbreaking. I don't normally like to read books like this because my heart simply cannot take it but thankfully kept reading. The first chapter does NOT dictate the whole book. It does play into the characters actions and emotions for the duration of their story but it doesn't take over the story if that makes sense. I will leave a spoiler here for those who NEED to know what I am talking about (I know some readers need to know what they are getting into before buying a book) but I don't recommend reading it if you enjoy feeling the full emotions and seeing the surprises. >> SPOILER ALERT << (view spoiler)

With that being said, I think this book could have potential triggers for some readers (read my spoiler if you have certain triggers) but it none the less a very good story. There is a cliffhanger as this is a duet, but book 2 is now available!

My Reason for Giving this book 4 stars out of 5

I gave Written with Regret a solid 4 star rating because I think this book COULD have been a beautiful story without the twist and cliffhanger. While I appreciate the twist and was certainly shocked by it, the story could have ended here and still been a great book. Once you read it you will know exactly what I mean.
