To Burn in Brutal Rapture is a highly erotic forbidden romance of the best kind! I devoured this book despite the long page count and was extremely invested in the story! You should read it!
Rating: ★★★★
Release Date: October 22, 2020
Genre: Age Gap. Forbidden Romance.

Series: None. Complete standalone.
Pages: 637 pages
Format: eBook. Borrowed from Kindle Unlimited.
The ache of tragedy sunk deep, like the claws of a wicked monster.
To heal was to remember what my godfather told me when I was six…

Pain is a part of life. If you prepare for it, it will hurt less.

He would know, after all. Lazarus Weston is pain personified.

The scowling man with stormy eyes and tattoos covering his excessive muscles is not only my godfather, but also my dad’s business partner and best friend. A permanent fixture in our lives. Well, in Dad’s, not mine.

But when grief mixes with confusing new feelings, I’m forced to see Lazarus differently, in a way that severely complicates my world.
Because he’s too old for me. He’ll never be mine.

I’m not allowed to have him, but obsession burns a fine line between can’t and won’t.
I can’t want her…

The curse on my heart is heavy, the tale of my malediction drenched in brutal loss. Wearing ink like scars reminds me of the tomb I left behind.

I’ve been expecting pain all my life, yet I’m still unprepared, failing to see my downfall until she’s wrapped around my soul like barbed wire.

Tracien Wright. My best friend’s daughter. Part of my life strictly through association. She was never meant to be more than that.
But Traci is a trickster. A skilled predator in the most unexpected package, oblivious to her own power.

She’ll learn the hard way that not all beasts should be hunted.

I’m not what she thinks I am, having rose from a pit, only to bury myself in secrets and lies.
Deep down I’d love nothing more than to have her. But I don’t get to keep nice things.

Burn with me, Lazarus.

READ MY BOOK REVIEW

My Rating: 4 Stars
Genre Forbidden | Age Gap Romance

I’m so glad I decided to read another book by Nyla K. I didn’t care for her novel, PUSH which I read a few days ago (it was a little too unbelievable for me) but this one was SO.MUCH.BETTER! Age gap, forbidden romances have always been my favorites and this book hit all the marks! Sure, there were a few things about this book that I didn’t care for (hence the 4-star rating) but for the most part the author SLAYED this one. I definitely recommend it.

One of the main reasons I decided to read this book is because it had been recommended all over social media by various readers. Normally I don’t pick up a book that had been recced so hard, but something told me to read this one despite my hesitations. WOW! I’m really glad I did! This book is BRUTAL in the best of ways. There is a hell of a lot of angst, deeply emotional and ugly cry moments, INTENSE sex scenes, and one epic love story. Lazarus and Traci have excellent chemistry and even though he is 20 years older than her they MAKE SENSE. Sure, he practically raised her from infancy, and he IS her fathers’ best friend and co-worker, but two people couldn’t be more fated together than these two. Nyla K SHOWED IS THIS throughout the story. Their journey wasn’t easy by any means, but it made sense for them. AH! I devoured this book!

Below you can find my specific likes and dislikes for this novel. I like doing this rather than recapping the entire story throughout my review 😊

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞

📝 Lazarus and Traci FELT like they were meant to be. Even though there were so many things standing in their way you could just TELL that they belonged together. The author made their relationship believable through her storytelling.

📝 Nyla K knows how to write EPIC SEX SCENES JEEEEZZZZZZ this book was HOT HOT HOT. I can’t remember the last time a book made me blush like this one!

📝 Instead of just SAYING that this romance was forbidden Nyla K PROVES JUST HOW FORBIDDEN IT IS. I love an author who can SHOW us rather than just TELL us why things are the way they are, and she does this PERFECTLY.

📝 Age gap romances are my THING! I love seeing the different lifestyles combined when an age gap is present, and you get that in TBIBR. If you’re going to write an age gap romance, there SHOULD be a significant gap between the characters ages. I get tired of authors saying their book is AG and then saying they are 5 years apart. HUH! That’s like nothing! This one though, there were 20 years between the two and I LOVED IT.

📝 This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster that I didn’t want to get off of! We all know the problems that people/characters face when they are dealing with forbidden romances. Authors who write them “too easy” really take away from the feelings and emotions that come about from these relationships. Well, this one was HARD, and it was filled with emotion, angst, anger, and all the other feelings! There were moments I wanted to cry and moments that nearly tipped me over the edge. I just LOVE how an author can bring out these emotions in their writing and Nyla does just that! It was brutal but SO WORTH IT!

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞

📝 Some of the drama was unnecessary- especially when it comes to the ending. What happened to one of the characters (I won’t say WHO) kind of felt like a cop out for the problem. I would have liked to see things resolved without THAT happening.

📝 The book was SO LONG. Usually if a book is over 450 pages I won’t read it. There aren’t many authors who can write a book THAT long without it feeling like its stuffed with unnecessary nonsense. Thankfully, the page count was FINE for this love story, but I still would have preferred it being a little less lengthy.

📝 The side story between Lazarus and Damien was out of place within this story. Most of the book wasn’t focused on what happened between those two so adding it in felt off. I get they were close and WHY they were so close, but for the way it ended it didn’t make sense for it to even be a part of the story. The book still would have been wonderful without it (it was HOT though 😉 )

📝 There was an overrose scene in the story that didn’t really go anywhere. When you add in something this serious in a story, I feel like there should be a lot of follow up and that just didn’t happen. It kind of felt like a filler and was unnecessary.

𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗧 𝗨𝗣

Overall, To Burn in Brutal Rapture is a fantastic novel of forbidden romance. I devoured this book despite my hesitation and despite the page count (which scared the heck out of me)! This is an intriguing novel, one that held my interest (and kept it) from beginning to end. It made me feel all sorts of emotions that I wasn’t expecting and was written in a way that mad it feel epic and real! I highly recommend it!
