cheering up, and I’m just the guy for the job.
It’s not like I’ll fall in love. Not even after a string of scorching hot trysts, and the realization that we’re good at the same things: wild nights and familial disappointment. I don’t do love, never have, never will. So this is the perfect arrangement, for both of us.
Nobody would approve, but nobody has to know…

Unfortunately, I didn't care for this one. The previous books in the series were great but this one didn't work for me at all. First and foremost, I loved May when she was a secondary characters in the books before this one. She seemed like a woman with a heart of gold and a deep love for her family. I didn't feel this AT ALL in Speakeasy. In fact, I felt that she had a lot of disdain for them even though they clearly were there for her during her struggles. It was sad to see. Secondly, she flip-flopped from liking women to men so quickly that it made my head spin! I understand bisexuality and rooting for both teams. I feel for those who have a hard time with their sexuality and everything in between. But she moved on so quickly from being with a woman for nearly a year to sleeping with a man who she barely knows way to fast. I think this made it hard for me to connect with her because she didn't feel real to me because of it. Finally, everything seemed really rushed in the story. I like a book that takes its time and builds up the romance an characters together but I didn't get it in this book. Therefore, it was a complete bust for me. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of 1 is because no matter the problems I had with the book I still love the author and her writing. Plus, I read this one and didn't let it fall in the DNF pile.
