Angst Filled | New Adult/Young Adult | Emotional Romance

I bought this book because it was recommended by a fellow reader and for the most part, I'm glad I read it. There's just something about an angsty, young adult romance that gets me. I love the turbulent love of young people as their view of love is different than adults and this is exactly what you get here. This book brings to life the potential of love that stems from years of friendships. The two main characters have been friends for most of their lives and grew up doing everything together. Their families were close, they were as close as any friends could be, and they formed an almost unbreakable bond. But when tragedy strikes the two must come to terms with their changing relationship and it’s a hard pill for both to swallow… I don’t want to get into what exactly happens as it will spoil the plot for potential readers, but I’ll tell you this: it’s angsty, slow burn, emotional, and will bring about a torpedo of emotions in the reader. This book made me SOB like a little baby. You may too… So, I definitely recommend it despite giving it 3 stars myself (which I’ll explain below).

POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
One of the major issues I had with this book is how quickly the two parted. They were each other’s best friends for so many years and one devastating moment changes everything. I wondered to myself how the hero could turn off his emotions so quickly especially because he LOVED her so much? I mean the two were INSEPERABLE and then it all does to dust. This frustrated me so much.

In addition to this, it becomes clear early in the story that the two had feelings for each other but were afraid to act on them because they didn’t want to ruin their amazing friendship. This in itself is fine and it’s prevalent through many friends to lover’s romance books. However, if the two loved each other as much as they TOLD us through the story, why not TALK? Why did the hero IGNORE Abby and not respond to her letters? He should HAVE KNOWN HOW SHE FELT! Ugh. It’s so clear from the very beginning but the ignorance totally made my head spin. I wanted to reach in the book and throttle him. He got on my nerves so bad and he had a hard time redeeming himself to me.

Finally, the devastation that continues to happen in the hero’s life became overkill for me. I cried sure as it effected my heart (how could it not) but WHY did it have to happen AGAIN… You can read my spoiler if you want to know exactly what I am talking about: (view spoiler)

END POTENTIAL SPOILERS

All in all, despite the few things that got on my nerves, this is a good book. It’s told well, written well, and while it ends on a cliffhanger, is a complete series. I will be reading the next book as I need to know what happens, but I hope the hero redeems himself or I’ll have to stop. I can’t deal with the silliness!
