READ MY BOOK REVIEW

Release Date: March 22, 2018
Actual Rating: 5 stars

Sports Romance | Emotional

First and foremost, I want readers who haven’t read this book to understand that Long Shot is a highly emotional story with some very dark scenes . I’m laying it out there now that there could be triggers for some people who suffer or have suffered at the hands of domestic violence. These scenes are RAW, they are described in great detail, and in some respects, stomach churning. Readers on Instagram told me to heed these warnings because this book is not always easy to read and while I didn’t think it would be THAT BAD, I was wrong. Kennedy Ryan does a wonderful job at bringing domestic violence to light and I commend her for writing about such a tough topic, but some readers WILL find the subject matter to be “too much”. So, take that for whatever you want, but I am warning potential readers of what happens in the story.

On to the book… WOW! This is my FIRST Kennedy Ryan book and I am utterly flabbergasted. Her writing style is poetic. The topic, while devastating, is written with such clarity and care that I can’t even fault her for bringing me to my knees with this read. Aside from the harrowing tale of abuse, the romance is on point and deliciously swoon worthy. You can feel the love and a sense of fate throughout the book. I love how she used a reference for the movie Sliding Doors because it makes so much sense for this novel. Gosh, I am just so amazed with the way she penned this novel and am slapping myself for not reading it sooner. I can see why so many readers have fallen for her stories and I know for a fact tis won’t be my last. I’ll be picking up the next book immediately!

Iris and August are two of the most special characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about. August is an NBA player with such a good future ahead of him and is so lucky to “have it all.” The only thing missing in his life is for someone to share it with.

Iris is a woman with dreams. She’s a woman who hasn’t had the easiest life and has been let down by the people who are supposed to protect her. But when a surprise pregnancy occurs, her life takes her on a path even darker than she would have imagined…

Iris and August may be fated from the start, but life has many roads and twists and turns. What path with this lead them too? Will they survive the storm? Or will it be the end of something that never even had the chance to begin?

All in all, I found this to be a blessing of a book. It hurt to read at some points, but the message is powerful. Kennedy Ryan is clearly a gifted writer and there is no doubt in my mind that I’ll be reading many more of her books. I’m glad I started here though…

Highly recommended | 5+ stars
