Leave No Trace is a gripping and original thriller with a compelling story-line and complex characters that will leave you reeling from beginning to end. I was absorbed in this story. So much in fact that I looked down to start reading and only looked up from the pages when I was getting close to the end. This author has an exquisite eye for detail, and the story came alive in my hands. I truly enjoyed it, as I did her previous novel, and am excited for her to write more in the future.
Without giving away to much detail, this book is a true psychological suspense. It will mess with your mind, leave you feeling on edge, and literally haunt you until the last page. It's not a scary novel in any sense, but one that you don't know what's coming. The two main characters, very alike, but worlds apart, meet when Lucas is being treated in a mental hospital. Maya Stark, the only therapist that can get through to him, will do anything in her power to find out what Lucas knows about his father's disappearance. That means even putting herself in immediate danger. These two quickly become allies in this unstoppable thriller and some things come to life that will change everything in their paths...
If you were a fan of Mejia's previous novel- Everything You Want Me to Be (one of my favorite books EVER) then this is the next book you MUST read. I didn't find it quite as thrilling as that one, but it certainly stands out among many of the thrillers that have been hitting the shelves in recent months. I very much recommend it. I think many who don't try to compare it to EYWMTB will find this to be quite the hit in the genre.
