Get a Life, Chloe Brown is one heck of a charming read and I loved every minute of it! While there were minor things that bothered me, when I think of the book as a whole, I loved it.
Rating: ★★★★
Release Date: November 5, 2019
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Series: The Brown Sisters #1 (can stand alone)
Pages: 387 pages
Format: Paperback. Purchased.
A witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new things--perfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang!

Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?
  • Enjoy a drunken night out.
  • Ride a motorcycle.
  • Go camping.
  • Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
  • Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
  • And... do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.

Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.

But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

READ MY BOOK REVIEW

My Rating: 4 Stars
Genre/Tropes: Romantic Comedy

GET A LIFE, CHLOE BROWN has been on my radar for quite some time now, but I haven’t picked it up because I wasn’t in the mood for this type of story. Thankfully, I decided it was time and man am I glad I did! This is a 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚, uplifting, and diversified read, one that I know I won’t forget for a long time. I went into this one thinking it would simply be another romcom, but it was so much more than that! This book deals with trauma (both main characters have been traumatized by past relationships), chronic illness (which is discussed in a rational, and educational way), and friendship. It started out as an enemies-to-lovers romance but quickly blossomed into friendship and then more. I loved Chloe and Red; their interactions, the slow build to their love story, and way they brought EACH OTHER out of their shells. Simply put, it’s just another uplifting read.

I suppose you may be wondering why I have this one 4 stars rather than 5 because I enjoyed it so much and here is why: for all the wonderful aspects to the “Chloe puzzle” that I loved, she was so self-deprecating that I lost my head. I can understand her fear of love as she was hurt so much in the past due to her chronic illness, but she really beat herself up through most of the story and I frankly got tired of it. Did I understand her actions? Yes. Did her constant criticism bother me? Also, yes. This brought down the story for me a bit hence, the 4-star rating. Red also had his moments that bothered me (especially the HUGE misunderstanding towards the end) which took away from some of my enjoyment. While I loved the way the two came BACK to one another, I found the “climax” to be a silly. Both are grown adults and needed to pull their heads out of their asses!

Other than these two minor things, I loved this story! I can’t wait to start the next standalone in the series either. I already have it sitting on my shelf and waiting to be devoured!

𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
