This book has a good premise although it was completely unexpected as the synopsis didn't explain much. In many ways, this is a good thing because I fear if the synopsis gave too much detail then it would take away from the story. However, when it comes to the execution, I found the story to be lacking that "oomph" that would have made it extra special. I found the buildup to be lackluster and I felt it was missing some important details (the kind that are put right in your face) to make it more thrilling. I like the shorter chapters and how the story is told in multiple point of views, but then again, I found some of the characters to be a bit annoying. Even more, I was unable to sympathize with the situation as the characters made it hard to do so. With that being said, the story isn’t a total bust. There are memorable moments in it and a really good backstory, although had it been more in your face I think I would have liked it a lot more.
Cross Her Heart is an interesting read, but not one I would read again. As I mentioned, the story line is very interesting but is missing elements of surprise and emotion. Having read a few of the authors previous novels I will surely read more in the future, but this one was just an okay read for me.
