If you’re in the mood for a creepy psychological thriller that feels like a mix between Children of the Corn and Friday the 13th then this may be a good book for you. It’s a decent read with some good twists along the way.
Rating: ★★★
Release Date: July 8, 2021
Genre: Mystery. Suspense.

Series: None. Complete Standalone.
Pages: 335 pages
Format: eBook. Source: Kindle Unlimited.
From the bestselling author of The House Guest comes a chilling story set deep in the woods…

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie. Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine.

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning. Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort. The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim
anniversary.

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls. And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can.

𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗣𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧: If you’re in the mood for a creepy psychological thriller that feels like a mix between Children of the Corn and Friday the 13th then this may be a good book for you. It’s a decent read with some good twists along the way.

I’ve seen Mark Edwards books around and finally managed to give him a try with his latest release, The Hollows. For the most part I enjoyed the book. It’s got its creepy moments and what’s happening in the Hollows Campground (along with its past history) is enough to give you goosebumps. Unfortunately, the major twist in the end was a bit lackluster for me. Sometimes authors can go a little too far for the sake of twists and this is one of those times. I don’t want to give away what this twist is, but I will say this: he leaves the ending too open, and that part wasn’t necessary. Some people will love it but those like me who want a book that’s got an ending wrapped up with feel let down. Unless of course he plans to turn this book into a series… Then I may be a little less hesitant to pick up another one of his books.

All that aside, the premise, setting, and characters are well thought out and intriguing. I also found the book to be quite unsettling especially when faces appeared in the cabin’s windows for some victims *shivers*.

𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙:
• Friday the 13th and Children of the Corn (the movies)
• A secluded setting set in the woods
• Authors like Riley Sager, Jess Lourey, and Blake Crouch

𝗠𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐⭐⭐
