Rating: ★★★
Release Date: July 20, 2021
Genre: Crime. Serial Killer Thriller.

Series: None. Complete standalone.
Pages: 254 pages
Format: eBook. Source: Kindle Unlimited.
Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the
investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

READ MY BOOK REVIEW

𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗣𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧: While I love the darker side of Alessandra Torre’s novels this one wasn’t as compulsively readable as her former release. It’s good, but not my favorite of hers.

The Good Lie was one of my most anticipated reads of July 2021. Why? Because Alessandra’s darker reads are my absolute favorite. Her former release, Every Last Secret was one of my favorite books last year and I was hoping for a repeat with my feelings towards this one. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. This book was slower, didn’t have the excitement when it came to compulsively turning the pages to figure out “who-dun-it”, and the major “twist” at the end left me feeling indifferent. I think I had it figured out too early on that when it was revealed I didn’t much care.

Is this a bad book? No. Absolutely not. Alessandra has a knack at writing dark psychological thrillers, and I hope she continues to write them because I’ll always read them. It’s just that this one didn’t WOW me like some of her other ones. Would I recommend it to fellow readers? Yes, I would. Just because it wasn’t the perfect book in my mind doesn’t mean it won’t be the perfect read for someone else.

Before I close out this review, I want readers to know that this book may contain triggers as it deals with horrific topics. Those triggers include kidnapping, rape/sexual assault, murder, and graphic violence. Most of these triggers are “off-page” meaning the author alludes to them but doesn’t talk about them in great detail.

𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙:
• Dark Psychological Thrillers
• Crime Fiction
• Authors like Britney King, K.L. Slater, and B.A. Paris
