Sheriff's Secret is a good start to a brand new MM romance series from K. Webster. While some of the book did seem a little far fetched to me I did enjoy it as a whole.
Rating: ★★★
Release Date: December 29, 2020
Genre: MM Romance

Series: Brigs Ferry Bay #1 (can stand alone).
Pages: 307 pages
Format: eBook. Source: Kindle Unlimited.
When you’re the sheriff of Brigs Ferry Bay, certain things are expected of you.
Marry a local girl, settle down, have a few kids. You know, the small-town dream.
But I’ve got a secret I’m terrified will get out.

I’m gay.
Not bi. Not curious. Not confused.
Just gay.
So, settling for that dream won’t be happening.

If this secret gets out, the people I serve and protect, especially my father, won’t be accepting.

I’m not brave like my high school sweetheart, Kian.
The day he came out was the day I had to let him go, and with it, love.

I’ve done a great job of pretending I’m perfectly fine being single.
Until a villainous and annoyingly charming new B&B owner, Dante Kincaid, rolls into town. The spark between us is electric and undeniable. He wants to give me a taste of what he has to offer, and better yet, he vows to be discreet. I’m too selfish to refuse.

But my secret is still a heavy burden, leaving me handcuffed to expectations and unable to fully grasp what I want—him. History has a way of repeating itself, but this time around, with Dante, it’ll hurt a lot worse.

I have to decide if I’m going to let love slip away again or if I’m going to finally fight for it.

***Brigs Ferry Bay is a steamy MM romance series. While each book can be read as a standalone, in order to get the full experience, they're best read in order. Enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, hurt comfort, age-gap romance, and so much more. Fall in love with the charming small-town gay romances of Brigs Ferry Bay...***

My Rating: 3 stars
Genre MM Romance

Sheriffs secret by K. Webster is a good MM romance. There were many parts of the story I liked and parts that were extremely problematic for me. So I’m staying in the middle with my rating and giving this a solid 3 stars.

One of the things I really loved about Sheriffs Secret is the emotion behind it. Jax is extremely conflicted about coming out of the closet and his reasonings are justified. If I had parents like his I would be TERRIFIED too. Not only that, Jax feels that his job as a small-town sheriff will be severely impacted by him coming out. His feelings are definitely warranted, and I can see the fear being a real thing. Another thing I loved is that both male leads are alpha heroes . I wasn’t sure how this would work as I got into the story but was pleasantly surprised to see these two unlikely people find love with each other. Sure, it takes a LOT to get there and the book isn’t without the angst and drama, but these two worked well together.

No there are some things I didn’t like about this book and unfortunately, they left me feeling a little bored. First and foremost, Webster shows how fear is a big motivator when it comes to coming out of the closet. We all know this is a real feeling and there’s no doubt about it. For some its easier (with the right support) and for others its one of the most difficult things they will ever do. So what’s my problem with this? Well, it seems while Jax had a hard time coming to terms with his feelings and fears, everyone else had the EASIEST time. It was all very contradicting to the point of the story. For instance, Jax’s brother also happens to be gay (as well as possibly having another brother who is bisexual). Both are proud of who they are and who they love. COOL. Dante (the other hero and love interest) ALSO has a brother who is gay 🤨. Is it hard to them to admit their feelings? Nope. And two of them are in HIGH SCHOOL. I’m so confused! I didn’t like how everyone was suddenly gay and the only one afraid was the grown man, Jax. It was really weird to read about. I think its because the author seems to be conveying that it runs in the family. It LOOKS that way when its so far from the realities of it.

Another thing that bothered me about this book was the dramatic scenes (or lack of them). In the book there’s someone targeting the homosexual people in Briggs Ferry Bay and sheriff Jax says hell do everything in his power to stop it. Makes sense, right? He is the sheriff after all. However, we never see him investigating ANYTHING. It would have made much more sense for his job title in the story for him to actually do WORK. I felt like the author just let this slip to the wayside until the very end when everything unfolds in a very dramatic fashion.

Anyway, while I liked this book for the message it sends (love and acceptance) there were quite a few things that felt WEIRD to me. So, I’ll go ahead and give this one three stars. Will I read the next book in the series? Maybe. If I can be convinced its better than this one I’d give it a try but for now I’m just not sure.
